Valentine’s Day is the day for couples, those newly in love, but also older ones who want to bring some romance into their relationship. With its location on the long sandy beaches facing the west, Khao Lak is ideal for romantics who want to walk up and down the beach and enjoy the sunset.
The classics: flowers, chocolate, jewelry
Of course there are also classics here. Red roses (and other flowers) can be found at Me Style Flower on Main Street 4 in Bang Niang, Khao Lak (opposite the market). Me Style Flower (Facebook Seite)

Chocolate or pralines can be found at 7-Eleven or Mother Maché or Nang Thong Supermarket.
Jewelry: Thais like gold jewelry the most because they also use it as an investment, which is why there are a few jewelry shops in Khao Lak. The Gems Gallery down on Phuket is very well known – they also offer guided tours of how they are made. Quality and corresponding prices.
Going out for dinner
There are many restaurants and bars right at the beach, although these days there are more on the road inland. For Valentine’s Day I recommend choosing something special – be it because of the location or because of the particularly good food. Here are a few recommendations:
Restaurants on the beach (with your feet in the sand…):
– Krua Thai Restaurant (Bangsak)
– MaMa Mr.Lek Restaurant (Pak Weep Beach) with wooden bridge
– Restaurant on White Sand Beach
– Boatyard Restaurant on Coconut Beach
– Nong Prew Restaurant now also on Coconut Beach, no longer at Bang Niang
– Memories Beach Bar and Restaurant on Memories Beach
– 8 Fish Bistro and Surf on Khuek Khak Beach by the Marriott
– Lah Own Restaurant on Nang Thong Beach
It has a few more and most of the hotels that are located by the sea have restaurants that can also be visited as a non-hotel guest. The quality of the hotel restaurants is usually excellent – with the prices to match.
Restaurant with a special setting:
– Phu View: Khao Lak’s highest restaurant offers a great sunset view over La On town and the sea. Food is classic Thai.
– Nai Mueang: it’s a bit hidden in a side street between La On and Bang Niang, but it’s super decorated and offers (Michelin) excellent food.
– Khao Lak Blue Sky: Located in the hills and green surroundings on the way to Chong Fa Waterfall. Very stylish and fine food.
– Laoleu Restaurant: if you like it rustic and by the lake, I recommend this restaurant in the interior behind Khuek Khak. Laoleu Facebook page
– Pam’s Restaurant: lovely Thai restaurant in Khuek Khak, close to the big temple on the way to the Marriott. The food is often served on heart-shaped plates.
Fire shows in the evening: (in high season)
– Memories Bar (7pm every night – weather permitting), with food and drink
– Pullman Khao Lak every Saturday at the Beach Club
– La Vela – Kokulo Beach Club Wed/Fri/Sat Bartender Fire Show
– Mr. Bao Family Restaurant at PakWeep Beach
Private dinner on the beach:
If you prefer something more exclusive, ask your hotel whether they organize “private dinners”. Some hotels offer these dinners on the beach: the table is set up a little to the side and a delicious dinner is prepared. You get your own cook and server and have peace and quiet.
These hotels do it: The Sands, La Vela, Marriott, Sarojin, La Flora, Laguna Resort, The Kalima, Apsara, Avani… and more.
You can ask the hotels if your own hotel does not offer this. The restaurant at Memories Beach also offers this.
That costs less than you would think: about as much as a (good) meal out in Switzerland – and there you don’t have the sea, sand under your feet, sunset or anything like that:

Even more romantic ideas for couples
Dinner by candlelight at the waterfall: The restaurant at the Sai Rung waterfall offers this service – but only upon request and prior booking.
Longtail boat excursion and meal on a secluded beach. Trip to the sandbank in front of Khao Lak and dinner on the really lonely beach in the evening.
Sunset dinner on the Chinese junk in Phang Nga Bay. Phang Nga Bay at sunset is a special experience. On a mini cruise on the Chinese junk you can combine this with dinner on board.
Cake or crepes or ice cream: During the day. There are some good cafes and ice cream parlors in the area: The Eight Room Cafe in Khao Lak, Coconut Coffee on Pakarang Cape. Ban Yai Ice Cream and Saraan Ice Cream at Takua Pa…
Book a massage: There is also a couples massage – then you lie and enjoy it next to each other in the same room.
Bamboo rafting in the green rainforest: a comfortable and beautiful activity during the day.
Moo Moo’s Cabaret: something for bolder couples, transvestite show and cocktails in the evening.
Get new clothes at the tailor: whether for a wedding or for business. Khao Laks tailors offer good and affordable quality.
Soak in natural hot springs: There are natural hot springs near Kapong, but with good access and infrastructure you can find the Rommanee Hot Springs at Khao Sok and the Ban Bo Dan Hot Springs in the resort south of Khao Lak.
Cheow Lan Lake: spend the night on the water in one of the floating bungalows. A uniquely beautiful experience that you have when visiting Khao Sok National Park with an overnight stay.
